Lane prepares to open doors on its Second Summer Play, Dress Rehearsal.
Newquay’s Lane Theatre has only just finished its first play of the summer in the form of Yes, Prime Minister but swiftly following in its footsteps is the infectiously funny Dress Rehearsal.
Newquay Dramatic Society’s next production is an extremely funny play within a play: Dress Rehearsal by Charles Stott. It features a dramatic society rehearsing the play “Moon Mission” when they find out that due to a mistake in the printing the posters the play will start its 4 day run the next day- 6 weeks early! That has got to be one of the worst nightmares for a theatre group. Nothing is ready and I mean nothing. The director has to convince the cast and her crew that all will be well and that all the elements that go in to making a play a success will be ‘Alright on the Night’ all they have to do is pull together, as she has confidence in them all that they can pull it off.
Some of the cast from Dress Rehearsal went to see and have photographs taken at Goonhilly not far from Culdrose, now closed to the public. In its heyday it was a communications centre sending Television signals out all over Cornwall until it closed a few years ago. The site has been taken over and is part of the many satellite tracking information about deep space mars and the moon.
So where better for us to go and have our photo shoot. Over the years NDS has always liked the idea of linking its plays to various aspects of Cornwall and we have been fortunate in having Carolyn Oakley of Images who has been happy to indulge our whim. Since Carolyn joined us we have had photo shoots at many different places from a Lighthouse in Padstow, a supermarket in Newquay and Newquay Police Station to name but a few, however this has got to be the furthest we have travelled and a superb afternoon was had by all.
Dress Rehearsal opens on the 12th August performing 2 days a week every Tuesday and Wednesday for 10 weeks as usual you can book your tickets by ringing the box office on 01637 876945 or visiting the website: lanetheatre.co.uk
The artwork for the new show has also been released and features the theme of spacecraft and the moon as its inspiration. You’ll have to come along and watch to see what that’s all about!
The director Sheila Lines is thrilled to announce that you will see a lot of new faces as well as some familiar ones in this production.
